Myrtleford Golf Club Bulletin – June 14th, 2024

Men’s Comp.

Last Saturday, an excellent field of 39 players played in a Stableford event.

A grade winner with an excellent score of 39 points was Chris Rowney on a countback from Dick Matthews.

B grade winner with 35 points was Wazza Rowney, runner up Geoff Veldman with a net 77.

Super 6 winner was Dick Matthews.

Last Wednesday, a field of only 10 players played in a Stableford event, no doubt the rain the night before deterred many players.

Two very good scores, David Clark winning on a countback from Bimbo Wales with 37 points.

Ladies Comp

Last Friday was the annual Tarrawingee Bowl and ever green Champion Barb Welch was runner up in A grade and of course won the Super Vet event, well done Barb.

Last Tuesday, rain washed out the competition.

Yesterday 16 ladies played in the June monthly Medal and new member Wendy Caldwell had an excellent score of 39 points to win her first medal. Runner up Kerry Newton with 35 points, great golf Wendy. It didn’t end there for Wendy, she also won the Super Six competition.

9 hole winner was Kay McGuffie, runner up Suzette Kelly

Course

A fantastic working bee was held last Friday, the Club contracted one of our tee sponsors, Tom’s Tree Services to provide their equipment.

Starting on the 17th, branches pruned including Dexter’s tree, 14th, 12th, 4th, 3rd and an old pine was felled on the 9th/10th.

The day was coordinated by our super-efficient Greens and Grounds Chairman Jim Martin and we are reaching the stage where our course is “tree friendly”

A huge thanks to Ichlis, Peter Stewart, Peter Vasey, Spider Hancock, Brian and Wendy Caldwell, (golly these two are going to make great members, they come from great stock as Brian and Wendy's parents were terrific members of our Club), Fox O'Donohue, Andrew Loftus (another new member who is doing good stuff), Barry Bynon, David Clark and Geoff Veldman.

It was also great having Blackie and Jon helping too.

Thank you all

King’s Birthday 2 Player Ambrose

54 players played last Monday on the King’s Birthday Ambrose. We had visitors from Jubilee and Beechworth. The best aspect of a local ambrose is so many husbands and wife’s playing together, father son/daughter or grandmother and grandson and of course friends playing together, great day.

In the Men’s Handicap event, Jade Galvan and Ben Holmes played very well, hitting one under the card, 71, net 65, to win from Andrew Loftus and Peter Stewart.

There was no Men’s scratch event.

In the Mixed Scratch event, our two captains, David Clark and Kerry Newton won from Val and Malcolm Ellis from Jubilee.

Mixed Handicap, winners were Jan Roseby and Allan Rockliff from Kerry and Tony Chapman.

A huge thanks to our Ladies for the beautiful soup and sausage rolls, Dick Matthews, Kerry Newton and Marnie Broz in the office and Blackie and Jon on the presentation of our course.
