Myrtleford Golf Club Bulletin – July 5th, 2024

Men’s Comp.

Last Saturday, we had our first rain event for a long time and it was a really welcome drop. 21 players completed their rounds, however, some of the afternoon players were unable to finish.

Winner of A grade with an excellent score of 36 points was Stooge Piazza runner up Bob Toal with 35 points.

Winner of B grade was Buggsie Bynon with 33 points, runner up Paul Cowman with 32 points

Super Six winner was Chris Rowney, which proves you can win it without being a prize winner.

Last Wednesday, a good field of 20 players played in a Stableford event.

Jon Harrington hit the best score with a fine 34 points, runner up Geoff Veldman with 33 points.

Ladies Comp

Last Tuesday, 20 ladies played in the Monthly Medal event.

The frost on the ground did not worry Kerry Newton, winning the medal with a brilliant net 69, runner up Marnie Broz

In the 9 holes event, Penny Dawkins had an excellent score of 18 points, runner up Betty Newton on a countback from Sandra Piazza.

Super Six winner was Kerry Newton.

Yesterday, 13 Ladies and 1 Male played in a Stableford event.

Winner with an excellent 38 points, Helen Mummery, runner up David Clark with 35 points.

9 hole winner was Pat McPherson with an excellent 20 points, runner up Betty Newton.

Course

A very successful working bee was held last Tuesday to lay new pipe down to our toilets. Following the receipt of a very high-water bill, the culprit was an old pipe which needed replacing.

A huge shout out to new members Geoff Ramsdale and David Cummins, together with Ichlis and Jim Martin who assisted Blackie and Myself in getting the job done in a couple of hours.

Recreation Reserve Meeting

I attended their monthly meeting this week.

Their secretary has resigned, Mike Clark is going overseas for two years.

1000 bike riders on the Great Victorian Bike Ride will be staying at the reserve overnight in November – there could be some golfers amongst them.

I complimented the reserve on the funding they sourced for the Golf Club, $170K over 2 years to upgrade our drainage.

They are in a situation where they will be exporting power soon, thanks to solar panels and batteries. I indicated that the Golf Club would be interested in receiving power at our workshop through the summer to offset out electric pump.

If you know of a person who would be interested in being a caretaker at the Recreation Reserve, accommodation and phone provided. The same person could work for our Club in the warmer months in the office.

Clubhouse

A huge shout out to Kaye McGuffie for her gardening at the Clubhouse. Last month she and Allan removed the old garden at the verandah and planted the area down – a great improvement. Last Sunday, they were both back to work up a new garden in front of our mosaic and the entire area looks brilliant. Thanks, Kaye, for your initiative.

We have a working bee on the 17th July to plant 150 trees, please put this in your calendar, 2.15pm.
