Our Carts

Thanks to Kerry and Rodney Newton for going to Tocumwal to pick up our new carts, that is a great Club effort, well done to both of you.

I have approached a couple of members to look after our carts and a huge thanks to Robert Wheeler for taking on the role, Thanks Wheels and thanks to Judy for the suggestion. I know we will all support Robert and with his son’s expertise in the ‘cart’ business – an excellent advantage for the club as we realise how important carts are becoming in attracting players to our beautiful course.

I would like to give a SHOUT OUT to members who lend their carts to the Club on big days, such as the Alpine Classic this week, Judy and Barry Bynon, Barb and John Welch, Andrew and Craig McKerral. We are also indebted to Graham and Sandie Church and Kane Ives who leave their carts in our shed.

Course

Working bee last Sunday was a great success. Thanks to Faye McLees, Jan and Andrew Roseby, Judy and Barry Bynon, Fox and Rosco for helping me picking up bark, whipper snipping and pruning trees. A huge thanks to you all and next one, Sunday 3rd April, before the Victorian Championship, April 4th. I would also like to thank Craig Shewell who cleans out our bins on the course, Thanks Craig.

Men’s captain David has made it clear to men players and Kerry has supported him for the ladies that bark, grass clipping and sticks under trees do not give you the right to a free drop. Greenkeepers rubbish is when the Greenkeeper stacks sticks in a heap for removal.

I would like to make an comment re members talking to Gerard. He is annoyed that there are members telling him what to do or what needs doing. Only the two Captains, Marg Curtis - Grounds Chairman or Myself have the authority to tell him what to do.

Bushfire Grant

I am not going down defeated and after two attempts, the Club is going for another bid to upgrade our irrigation system. This time we are employing a grant professional to write the grant. The Football Club used these people to write their successful grant, so here we go again.

I have spoken to the Mt Beauty Golf Club and we are going to jointly meet with the CEO of the Alpine Shire to talk about funding for both Clubs.

Men’s Pennant

Started last Sunday with two teams.

The Wannabees captained by Karl O’Shaughnessy, Brad Carroll, David Clark, Ichlis and Paul Green won 4/1 at Thurgoona. Well DONE Guys

Our other handicap team played at Beechworth against Tarrawingee and lost 4/1, I’m sure they will come out fighting next week.

I need someone to look after the bar on Sunday for an hour as Beechworth are using our Club and course for pennant, 2.00-3.30pm

Ladies Pennant

No pennant this week. Good luck girls on Monday 28th at Mansfield.

Chris Rigoni Shield

The final semi final was played last Saturday and Dick and Spider played very well to defeat Craig and Doc.

The grand final will be contested in the next two weeks between Dick and Spider and Jonathan and Rosco.

Victorian Autumn Ladies Championship

To be held on April 4th and 5th, Myrtleford Monday 4th and Bright on the Tuesday. We have been notified by Golf Australia that they have received 180 entries. No doubt two shotgun starts, looks like a long day. As we had a low numbers wishing to have dinner at the Club, alternate arrangements will be made. They require 11 carts.

North East Veterans

Only 3 players played at Benalla last Monday and Peter Stewart had a great day, winning C Grade with 41 points, Well done Peter

Next Veterans day, Monday 11th April at Wangaratta.

Ambrose

We are planning another Ambrose Day, Easter Monday, 10.00 for 10.30am.

This will be a three player Ambrose, enter online or on the notice board.

Greenfreight Tee Sign

This year, Greenfright informed us that they would not be sponsoring our 1st tee sign - fair enough in these difficult times.

Gerry Green, wife of past member Geoff and brother inlaw of Fred, a long time sponsore of our club has informed the Club that she is willing to pay the sponsorship for Greenfreight in honour of Geoff, Fred and Pat Quick. Gerry this is such a generous and thoughtul contribution to our Club, in recognition of your family and good friend Pat – thank you.
