Drainage
Being at the Clubhouse all day for the Alpine Classic gave John Costello and I the opportunity to show Harrington Plumbing our problems with Drainage on the 3rd fairway. Gerard quickly assessed that the drain from the creek to the first pit needs blasting out and then continue to work back. Blasting will commence on April 11th.
Ukraine Visit
Last Saturday, 27 Ukrainian players from Melbourne played a two-day Club Championship, Myrtleford Saturday and Bright Sunday.
They have been coming to the Ovens Valley for many years.
The last time was two years ago and they were in Bright when the Victorian State went into the first Covid lockdown.
Many of the players have been taking in refugees from the Ukraine.
Peter Stewart proudly hangs the Ukraine flag and poster at our 19th hole.

Course
This Sunday 3rd April, before the Victorian Championship, is our next working bee. Please bring trailer and rakes. As we are back to normal time you will have an extra hour in bed, then on the course from 8.30-10.30am. Hoping to see you there…our course is on display to players from throughout Victoria on Monday.
Yesterday Jon Harrington and I pruned more trees, that dreadful tree next to the 3rd green has been pruned, now you can play a shot from under it.
We have had a deadful smell at the Clubhouse, hopefully the plumber has fixed it this week - thank you for you patience.
Bright Challenge
Wednesday week, 13th April, Bright Golf club is visiting our Club in the Rob Wickes challenge. Please note this date, so important we have a good roll up of members. Names on the notice Board please.
Ladies Pennant
Our ladies did extremely well last Monday winning 3 1/2 to 2 1/2, they played Wodonga at Mansfield. Winning team Marg Curtis, Marnie Broz, Carolyn Prowse, Sarah Deas and Ann Hazeldine, Well Done Ladies. Thanks to Judy and Sandra for providing lunch to a visiting pennant group on Monday.
Men’s Pennant
Thanks to Peter Stewart who welcomed the scratch players to our Club last Sunday as part of our arrangments with the Beechworth Club and Fox for looking after them later in the day.
The Wannabees captained by David Clark were not successful last Sunday, going down 1/4.
Our other handicap team, Captain Aaron Jose, Spider Hancock, Craig Shewell, Trout Batt and Dick Matthews won 4/1 at Bright against Wodonga, Well Done.
Chris Rigoni Shield
The grand final will be contested in this weekend between Dick and Spider and Jonathan and Rosco.
Victorian Autumn Ladies Championship
To be held on April 4th and 5th, Myrtleford this Monday and Bright on the Tuesday. We have been notified by Golf Australia that they have received 185 entries. Two shotgun starts, looks like a long day. If you have an hour to spare please come out to the Club on Monday. Our ladies are providing lunch and morning/afternoon tea, they truly are the backbone of our Club.
Ambrose
We are planning another Ambrose Day, Easter Monday, 10.00 for 10.30am.
This will be a three player Ambrose, Men or mixed, enter online or on the notice board.
Men’s Tee Signs
Thanks to Andrew Roseby who picked up our new men’s tee signs this week and he hasn’t wasted any time in painting our posts. We will need the support of all members in painting the posts and rails. If every member did one, we would need 18 members and the job would be done, contact Andrew for more information.
Update – Yesterday,Kerry Newton, Barry Bynon and myself painted all tees on the front nine, great effort, 8 to go.
Recreational Reserve
Not a good idea to go to an Annual Meeting, you usually end up with a job and last Tuesday, I was elected to the Committee of Management. As they are our landlord, it is important we have a voice on this Committee. I am keen to have a deputy who can attend meeings. We have issues with water coming on to our drainage system on the 3rd and 4th out of the reserve.
For our Club to grow and offer facilities such as a driving range, we will need more land, the Reserve doesn’t have a Master Plan, so I will be pushing for that.
Centennial Shirts
Have you ordered your shirt yet?? Order forms at the Clubhouse
They look terrific with the orginal logo on them.
Good hitting, George
