Guy Rigoni and Damien Fleming as well as equal course record holder Peter Glidden will be playing. If you are a past player or know a past player, they are very welcome to play, no handicap required.
It is also Captains Vs President Day, ladies are invited, lets show Guy and Damien how good our club is by having a good roll up.
Funeral and Birthdays
Last Friday, a funeral wake was held for our Life Member Peter Robertson’s wife, Isabel. Thanks to Spider for looking after the bar.
Last Saturday night a 50th birthday was held at our Club and thanks to Trout and Dennis Piazza for running the bar. Well Done Spider, Dennis and Trout.
Course
Working Bee
Excellent working bee held last Sunday, I counted 14 and the course lit up with many small fires burning sticks and bark. Despite reporting to the CFA of our intention to burn, of course someone in town reported the fires to CFA and out came their truck, causing a mess on our fairways. The pruning by Brad, Peter and Lesley has really smartened up the course.
A huge thanks to Robyn Ternes, Faye McLees, Ann Hazeldine, Lesley, Spider, Karl, Paul Evans, John Costello, Peter Stewart, Jim Martin, Brad Carroll,Craig Shewell. I hope I haven’t missed anyone, my apologies if I have. A huge thanks to David Cllark for his intitative in holding two big working bees this year.
Well there was one tree that did not want to see the 100th celebration. A large gum on the second tee fell Tuesday night, it was rotten inside. A fire was lit under it on Sunday and quickly got into the trunk. Thanks to a couple of contractors, it was heaped up and we have now had a good burn.
Next Thursday 9.00am– Kevin Grealy is dropping the large gum beside the 10th green, we will need a good roll of members to take away the head of the branches down to the fire heap. All good wood will be dragged into Bynon’s paddock for free disposal, bring your trailer if you want some. Ladies will be playing off a temporary tee, PLEASE support this working bee, chainsaws and trailers.
Correctional Service
There was a change of plans – they will be here next week.
Ladies Comp
Last Tuesday 17 ladies played on a beautiful day. Winner of the 18 hole event was Lesley Browne with an excellent 36 points, runner up Carolyn Prowse 33 points.
Winner of the 9 hole event was Annie Wilson with 17 points, runner up Robyn Ternes 14 points, Well done Annie, maybe your first win.
Yesterday’s competition, winner was Jan Roseby with 36 points, runner up Kerry Newton with 29 points.
9 hole winner was Sandra Piazza with 15 points from Faye McLees 14 points.
Judy Bynon
Judy and Barry are icons of our Club and they were very disappointed that they will not be here for our dinner tomorrow night, but Judy was still available to take a booking, even whilst holidaying on the Gold Coast.
Last Monday, a green fee player rang her for a cart, not knowing who to ring she told the gentleman to take the Bynon cart out of the their garage. He left $100 for the use. The gentleman who was past Hawthorn president Ian Dicker, and a grand age of 83 years young, heaped praise on our beautiful course and the wonderful hospitality - great work Judy.
Centennial Dinner
We have over 130 going tomorrow night to our centennial dinner at our Club. This dinner does not just happen, a lot of planning by our Committee. I thank Guy Rigoni for organising the Guest Speaker and to the back bone of our Club, our Ladies, a huge thanks for supporting me. Purchasing new tables, setting up the tables and decorating them. Players on Saturday, can you PLEASE access the bar via the verandah and socialise on the verandah after golf.
NE Veterans
- believe the scores were not very good last Monday and next day is June 27th at Howlong.
Prime TV
Our promo of our centennial story shown on Prime TV News was excellent, thanks to Reece Rayner for his support. Also a big thanks to John and Barb Welch for playing the major role.

Rules of Golf
Rule 5.6b covers pace of play, stating that "A round of golf is meant to be played at a prompt pace." Whether your club has a pace of play policy or not, you should consider playing 'ready golf' in stroke play, in a safe and responsible manner. This means that the ball that is furthest from the hole, doesn't necessarily need to be the next ball played in your group. Assuming no one else is about to play, just play when you are ready not when it is your turn. There are many things players can do to assist with pace of play to include: limit practice swings to one or none, all players go directly to their own ball and play when ready, and watch all moving balls until they stop to avoid lengthy searches.
Good hitting, George
