Mosaic

Last Friday, we unveiled the Centennial Logo Mosaic on the outside wall of the Clubhouse. Thank you to the Schlapp Family who funded the project in memory of their father Ebe Schlapp who was the first Life Member of the Club.

We are indeed blessed in our town to have the Crack Pots creating magnificent artwork around the town. We now have our very own piece at the Myrtleford Golf Club. A special thanks to members Evan Jones and Pieter Veldman who placed the mosaic on the wall – certainly no mean feat!

Thanks also to Sandra Piazza who drove the project- well done Sandra

The mosaic was certainly the topic of conversation at our centennial dinner, thanks to Stooge for spotlight and installing a permanent light in the near future.

Centennial Dinner

THANK YOU

After six months of planning our centennial dinner has come and gone.

Close to 130 people sat down to a beautiful dinner presented by the King River Café - thanks Ben and your crew the dinner was amazing.

The MC for the night David Clark, thank you.

I highlighted in my welcome speech, the fantastic contribution by so many people in making our Club what it is today. 20 or so have been made life members, but there are hundreds of others who have left their footprints on our Clubhouse and our course.

Our first Life member was Ebe Schlapp, and members of his family were present. His daughter Frances highlighted the wonderful life Ebe had, from going to the first world war, setting up a walnut orchard at Gapsted and his huge contribution to our Club.

It was wonderful having so many ex-members present, the room was abuzz with their stories of our history as they renewed acquaintance with long time friends - thank you for being there.

Australia Golf Mark Banford speaking on behalf of the guests, complemented us on our great course and Club. The game of golf is heading in a new direction and members should embrace the improvements being made in attracting the new generation of golfers to our Club. Thanks Mark and we will look forward to your next visit, where we can have a session with members.

Jan Roseby gave a excellent presentation of Club history, Thanks Jan.

Country member Guy Rigoni introduced our Guest speaker Damien Fleming who gave a hilarious presentation on the life of a test cricketer, Thanks Guy and a huge thanks to Damien.

Thanks to Gloria for working in the bar and Gapsted Wines for donating their wine - great to have local wines on hand.

Our ladies particularly Marnie, Carolyn , Lesley, Faye and Kerry, thanks for setting up the room and cleaning up next morning. The amazing art work of flowers by Barb Rayner was greeted with Gasps of delight - such a great talent and friend of the Club, thanks Barb.

As we go into the next decade, we all know that our Club is in a very strong position, with great members and a beautiful course.

As President of our Club, this week I have received so many positive comments about our night, well done to all those involved and attended.

Finally a shout out to our Ladies for purchasing new rectangular tables, they worked better than the round ones.

Course

Working bee to cut down the tree on the 10th tee was cancelled due to the wet weather, put off now until spring.

To upgrade our drainage on the 4th has also being delayed until spring.

Correctional Service

Also the weather has put the men off.

Ladies Comp

No golf Tuesday due to the weather.

Yesterday’s competition, 7 players played in very heavy conditions and Sandra Piazza had an excellent score of 36 points, runner up Sarah Deas with 26 points.

Centennial Celebration Continue

Next week we are celebrating our centenary on the course.

No Golf Wednesday

Next Thursday June 9th, will be resurrection of the 1960’s event, Members Vs Associates or as we call today, Ladies Vs Men. The Schlapp family has donated a trophy, 9.30 for 10.00am. Dress in your centennial clothes.

On the Saturday, centennial Stableford, again men wear your sports coats and ties.

On Queens Birthday (Monday 13th), 2 person Ambrose, 10.30 shotgun start, Men and Ladies/Mixed, enter on line or on the notice board.

As there are a lot of members who travel north in the winter, the Wednesday comp COULD be scrapped, and Men play on the Thursday. If you wish to support play on a Wednesday, turn up on the 15th to save the Wednesday comp. Captain David will be making the final decision.
