President's Bulletin – June 17th, 2022

Men’s Comp –

Last Saturday, 14 players played in a Stableford event. The conditions were better with the first signs of sunlight for a fortnight and although composite, the fairways and the greens were in great condition – considering.

Craig Piazza had a brilliant score of 37 points, runner up Aaron Jose on 35 points. Great to see country member John Chatfield play and also Lou Sirca play on Saturday.

Karl O’Shaughnessy’s first shot of the day left our mouths open as it rolled toward the flag on the first, stopping 10 inches from the hole.

If you wish to download the app for your mobile to score on our new program, it is called MiScore - $16.00 a year, has an excellent GPS with it.

Last Wednesday, a small field of players hit the course and Karl O’Shaughnessy was on fire with a brilliant 38 points, runner up Jim Martin with 37.

In the 9 hole event, Marg Fitridge won the event with 15 points, runner up Lyn Dwyer 14 points.

Yesterday, five very keen ladies(2NCR) played and Kerry Newton had a great 28 points, runner up Faye McLees.

Pennant Flag

Our winning pennant flag, signed with the teams’ names was presented to Club Captain David last Saturday.

Past Captain Paul Evans best summed up the team’s performance with his post on Facebook -

  1. is due to Karl who as Captain took it upon himself to select a team for the final which did not include himself despite his winning record. It is a team culture that needs to be recognised...Karl is a great team person and should be recognised as the example we as Myrtleford Golf Club members wish to become. In my view Karl is worthy of praise”

Committee Meeting

Highlights

  1. The Club will be running its own RSA course in Springtime.
  2. The Club will be applying for a grant through Alpine Council to upgrade drainage.
  3. All our pathways will be upgraded over the winter months.
  4. Financially- last month we traded at a profit of $600.00.
  5. Golf Ball Book – Does our Club owe you a golf ball? Presently there are 333 balls to be claimed, you have until the end of July to claim your winning balls and then the old software will be turned off. A spread sheet is on the notice board listing unclaimed balls.
  6. The Committee voted to increase the wages of both Gerard and Jonathan.
  7. The committee accepted the recommendation from Men’s Captain that the Wednesday competition be closed until the end of August. Men are encouraged to play either Tuesday or Thursday, just as ladies are encouraged to play on Saturdays. If there are more than 4 men on either Tuesday or Thursday, a men’s competition will be conducted, just as if there a four or more ladies playing on a Saturday, a lady’s competition will be run.

My personal recommendation is that men play on the Thursday, same times 9.30 for 10.00am. Captain Kerry made the comment that a male member cannot win a ladies Board event. Interesting that the Golf Australia Mark Banford made the comment recently that there are Clubs going down the track of opening up all their board events to both sexes.

  1. New Members - James Mellor, Jake Bayliss, Andrew Corcoran and Earl Toler, Welcome to our Club Guys.
  2. The Club will again run a Spring tournament.
  3. Centennial celebrations – deferred until Spring
  4. Club to sell large circle tables and electronic white board.
  5. The Club to have a designated tree stump painted blue as a support of mental health in our community. RYOK.

Recreational Reserve

This week I attended a Recreational Reserve meeting.

Some points that might interest members –

New toilet block, - still have not received planning permit from Shire, funds received 9 months ago!!

All user groups will enter into a licence agreement with RR. to use their land, the agreement will include annual fee and OH&S requirements to use their land.

Old grandstand on rodeo arena to be demolished.

I raised the issue of their drainage coming onto our course, we will be working together to solve this problem.

The Reserve to develop a Master Plan.

Centennial Celebrations

Next Wednesday, 22nd June, have a celebration drink for the Myrtleford Golf Club, turning 100. All our members can be proud of where our Club is today.

We will all remember the wonderful contribution of so many people over the last 100 years.

On Thursday we start a new era, full of confidence and prosperity for the future, as the saying goes “It is all in our Hands”

The Myrtleford Times will be having a 2-page supplement next week.

Later in Spring, we will celebrate this magnificent event.

Ace of Clubs

Next week, six of our men will be on the South Coast of New south Wales, competing in the Ace of Clubs. We all wish them a safe and great trip.

Albury Bowl

You have to give credit to our ladies, yesterday, three ladies played in the Albury bowl under pretty tough conditions
