PLEASE NOTE

From tomorrow, the Saturday competition will hit off at 10.00am. Last Saturday because of the heavy frost, Blackie had trouble mowing the greens, hopefully an hour later will give the greens a chance to thaw out.

Course

This week we have played on the full course –preferred lies.

Ladies Comp

12 players showed up last Tuesday in bright sunshine after a heavy frost. Barb Welch won the Monthly Medal, second week in a row winning, on a countback from Sandra Piazza and Jan Harper, all had a net 82 - well done ladies.

9 hole winner was Marg Fitridge with 13 points, and great to see Denise O’Donohue playing in the 9 hole event.

Yesterday, 13 ladies played – Heather Street was on fire with 35 points and lost 2 strokes off her handicap, runner up Deb Tulley from Beechworth.

9 hole competition was won by Faye McLees, runner up Penny Dawkins.

Kerry Chapman is on a roll getting her first card in – great to see her celebrating her retirement on the course.

Team Competition

It is so important that we keep our minds open to new ideas to encourage more members and new players play golf.

Paul Evans has suggested a team’s competition and I have copied his email for your thoughts.------

I went to a meeting about 3 or 4 years ago held at Golf Club and guest speaker was from Golf Victoria or Golf Australia discussing making golf attractive to players. Initiatives included a team event.

The idea was to make the game a team event, named teams, logos and / or team shirts. 3 or 4 players to a team, best 2 scores count in stableford cumulative format. League ladder. Invite other clubs to participate, their teams can play on their own courses, but the scores will be stableford.

We can have a set season, number of rounds with team’s verse teams but still playing individual games. Their scores are included in the competition. If there is no enough players to complete the round then we nominate a player as the emergency for all the teams (same player) someone who is playing and his / her score counts to the team.

It can be gender neutral so men and women can be in the team, because it is stableford it is even. The premiership ladder is posted, and it will build some friendly rivalry and boasting rights. The make of up the teams in my view, 1 x low handicap and 3 middle to high handicaps or open slather and the best will be the best.

Initially we can either nominate Captains of teams and then allow a draft selection to take place or we can get a team of selectors to pick the teams and allow horse trading to take place to make the teams.

The prize can be a trophy board, bragging rights, if you want small cost to play included it could be upfront.

Team names can be individual preference, no offensive names but something like

The Myrtleford Maulers

The Fairway Stars

The Golf Crackas

The Golf Genies

The NAGA Kings

It is being done in LIV Golf now and I think it will catch on,

An opportunity to allow struggling golfers to become a team member.

Thanks Paul

Sponsorship

The club relies on support from our sponsors.

I thank members and their business for supporting the men’s tee signs.

Last month’s prize sponsors Alpine Valley Homes and this month “BASTONI PIZZERIA”, thanks Jim and Leesa.

NEDGA 4BBB

NEDGA Men's and Women's District Championships 2022 will be held this year at Black Bull Golf Club, Yarrawonga on Sunday 24th July 2022 9:30 for 10.00am shot gun start. Entries via Golf Box https://tourentry.golfbox.dk/?cid=3541211.

Recreational Meeting

This week I attended a Recreational Reserve meeting.

Still no planning permit for new toilet Block – more than 12 months, hold up CFA red tape.

Our 21 year lease with the RR expires in 2029, reviewed every three years, next review 01/01/2023, presently paying $2000 a year.

The RR committee is keen to have DELWP and Shire inspect the drainage issues on the reserve and golf course and look to solutions to the problems.

Assistant Greenkeeper

The Club has received sad news this week that Jonathan has resigned from the part time green keeper’s job. Jonathan was a very conscientious and enthusiastic employee, but was offered a promotion at his other employment, with a young family he has taken up the new position. We wish him all the best and looking forward to seeing him on the course. Do you know of someone who could fill the role? Please contact me if you do.

Noel Holmes

Good news was received yesterday that Noel has come out of a coma and he is speaking.

A past, popular member of our Club, Noel had a heart attack last week. We wish Noel a speedy recovery.
