Vale Pat Webb

Pat passed away last week. She was a popular member and Ladies President in 1996 and 97. Pat often welcomed members to her home at Whorouly for social events. Her husband died when she was in her thirties, and she reared 6 children on her own. Pat still found time for golf and involvement in many community groups. Her funeral is next Thursday. We offer our condolences to her family.

Committee Meeting

A quick meeting is always good on a winter’s night. –

  1. Drainage – the Club has applied for an Alpine Shire community grant to offset the costs of the drainage works
  2. Centennial Celebrations – to continue in Spring.
  3. Mental health – The Club will not be highlighting mental health on the course, thank you to the members that contacted the Club.
  4. Financial – Last month the Club operated at a loss of close to $7,000. June was a very wet month, affecting comp, green fees and bar income. The Club paid for new software and materials for drainage and the cost of diesel is also of huge concern.
  5. Team competition – the Committee accepted the idea of running a team’s competition in the Spring. $10 to enter, half the winnings to the Club and half to the winning team, 3 in a team, best 2 stableford scores from the weeks competition, teams made up from names in a hat, looking for someone to run it. Thanks Paul Evans for this initiative.
  6. The Club to host the NEDGA Sally Symonds 4BBB event next year.
  7. No new members this month, great that Kerry Chapman has upgraded her membership to full membership.
  8. RSA course – at the club on Monday 15th August, list on the Club notice board. The Club will pay for member attendees.
  9. Assistant Greenkeeper – position to be advertised in August.

10.Spring Tournament in November, Stableford on the Saturday and 3 player Ambrose on the Sunday

  1. Club to host the Opening Day of NEDGA next year.

Golf Australia

Following the visit of Mark Banford to our Club in May, Mark has come back to the Club this week with the opportunity of our “Upgrade Irrigation Project” to be included in Australian Golf Advocacy Campaign for the Victorian Election. The campaign will be seeking funding commitments to a variety of initiatives for golf in Victoria.

Our club’s facility improvement project has been identified as a potential project that could be delivered over the next four-year government cycle, and therefore should be considered for inclusion in the Advocacy Campaign.

The Victorian Election is an opportunity to ask Governments for commitments of funding.

AG will be actively seeking commitments for funding by all sides of Government.

Our Club may be asked to participate in meetings with Members of Parliament and Ministers, to showcase our club and the project, that is required to improve our facility, and AG will set up and lead these meetings.

We are still waiting for announcements of successful recipients from the fourth round of Bushfire money, after three attempts, it could be our lucky turn.

Watch your step

We are told all the time as we get older to watch where we put our feet, Last Sunday morning, I slipped on our frosty verandah and broke my wrist, no golf for six weeks, maybe wearing socks and thongs not appropriate footwear.

Hamilton

I have asked before if any members would like tickets to see Hamilton in Melbourne, well they are now free, Friday August 5th, great seats.
