President's Bulletin – September 9th, 2022
Course
Last weekend, the course had dried out considerably, in fact Gerard allowed local members to use carts.
Last night another 20ml of rain fell, but it is not cold so hopefully, not too much water on the course.
Men’s Comp
18 players played last Saturday, a great field and a beautiful day. David Rowe won the Drummond Monthly Medal with a great 39 points. He had 26 points after 11 holes. We had three visitors from Howlong and one of them was runner up.
Last Wednesday, 7 players played, and David Clark continued with his good form with an excellent 38 points, runner up Pieter Veldam with 36 points. Wednesday comp. will continue for September and then will be reviewed.
Vale Alan Johnston
Last week the ladies catered for a funeral wake for lady member, Shirley Johnston’s husband, Alan. Alan was a wonderful community member, and he will be sorely missed. Our condolences to his family and friends.
Stephen Dunstone
One of the patrons at the funeral was Stephen Dunstone. Stephen is the son of past members Ann and Wally Dunstone. Stephen played golf at our club in his teenage days.
Today he is a successful golf course architect, his latest projects include Black Bull at Yarrawonga. He has offered his services to our Club at no cost, looking at ideas to bring our course into the 21st century. Scope would include greens and fairways. Very exciting, and no doubt the upgrades will cost us a lot of money – but working to a plan will be most beneficial to the Club. Looking forward to catching up with Stephen in the new year.

Beechworth Correctional Centre
The centre had planned to do paving at our side gate last June but this was called off due to wet weather. They are coming to the club in a couple of weeks to start work. I thank Pieter Veldman who will be looking after them on site and to Carolyn Prowse for looking after their refreshments – we have to look after these guys, they are always willing to help us out.
They still plan to build the shelter on the 7th in the spring.
NEDGA 20022 Championship
This week we have had four ladies played in the NE championships at Mansfield.
On Monday the Foursome Championship and Myrtleford pair Sandra Piazza and Marg Curtis won a ball and finished in 6th position, well done ladies.
On the Tuesday, Marg Curtis had the best score of our ladies .
Ladies Comp.
10 ladies played last Tuesday in a Stableford event.
Winner of the 18 hole competition with a great score of 36 points was Faye McLees, runner up Sarah Deas with 32.
Winner of the 9 hole competition was Lyn Dwyer with 15 points, runner up Kerry Chapman – Well Done Ladies. No golf yesterday because of the rain.
Club50
Next draw for our Club50 will be tonight at 5 pm at the Golf Club.
Assistant Greenkeeper
Last week we held interviews for the above position, and I’m pleased to announce that Tristan Purss will be our new assistant. Thanks to Tristan for applying and looking forward to long association.
Vale Les Brown
I am sorry to inform members of the passing of Les Brown. Living at Harrietville, he drove past the Bright Golf Club to join us at Myrtleford simply because he loved our Course and in particular our members’ company. His funeral will take place in Melbourne next Thursday, however a memorial service will be held in Bright at a later date.
Holidays
Lesley and I are leaving for six weeks holidays this Sunday. There will be no regular bulletins going out and I thank Jan Roseby in anticipation that she may be able to put together some club news from time to time. The Club wishes Andrew all the best with his forthcoming operation.
Good hitting,
George
