President's Bulletin – November 11th, 2022

Club 50

Last Friday, was the October draw of Club 50. Only member from the Golf Club to win a prize was the Mother of the Bride, Marnie and Jim Broz.

Seven draws to go.

Meeting with the Shire

Last Friday also, John C. and I travelled to Bright to meet with the Alpine Shire. This was a very good meeting and the outcome is - in January, we will be making a budget submission on two projects – Upgrading our irrigation scheme and upgrading our drainage.

It was highlighted that we do not have a Masterplan/Stragetic plan for the future of our Club. This was dicsussed at our committee meeting this week and all members should be involved in the future of our Club. This meeting will be held in January and I urge all members to have input.

Annual Meeting

Annual Meeting next Wednesday 16th, 7.30pm, all members , please attend, there are vacancies on our committee. The wet weather has had a devastating effect on our Club finances, you will have the opportunity to vote on next year’s membership fees, comp. fees and green fees.

Ladies Annual Meeting

A terrific roll up of ladies attended their Annual Meeting. All office bearers were re-elected – that says it all, they are doing a wonderful job. A huge thanks on a great committee who are the backbone of our Club.

High School

The local High School are planning three events on our course. Great promotion of our course and a great way to introduce our youth to the wonderful game of golf. Days are Monday, 21st, 28th and Dec. 12th. Brad Carroll has already taken students from Marian College for a hit.

Men’s Comp

Great to get on the course last Saturday, 23 players played in a Stableford event. Winner of A grade was Paul Evans on a count back from Bimbo Wales with 35 points.

Winner of B Grade with a great score was Doc Rossato with 40 points, runner up Pieter Veldman with 34 points.

Tomorrow we are having a private function at our Club. Men will be able to access the bar from the outside window. Thanks to Judy, she will be your bar lady. Time – 11.00am – 3.00pm.

I urge you all to have pride in your Club, I believe last Saturday there was mess left on the tables and fan left running. Whoever leaves the Clubhouse last – make sure lights and fans are turned OFF – cost of energy is the talk of the world at the moment!

Last Wednesday, a good field of 14 players played and the Holiday boy Roscoe Tanner had a great 40 points, runner up Dick Matthews with 37 points.

The Course

Those who played last Saturday would have noticed deer footprints on the course. Blackie repaired damage on the 15th green. One of our new members is going to keep a watch out for them, he likes venison.

An interesting story from Dick Matthews.

Approx 25 years, Colin Smith was the Greenkeeper and that winter/Spring, he reckons it was wetter than this year. In fact, they couldn’t mow the third, 80 members with wiper snippers mowed that fairway.

The course is drying out, slim chance of full course tomorrow and rain forecast for Sunday and Monday will not help our endeavors to open the whole course.

Ladies Pennant

Ladies put up a good fight last Friday at Jubilee, going down 2.5 to 1.5. Interesting talking to them about the condition of golf course. We should be very lucky here, the mud smell at Jubilee was terrible and of course, swarms of mozzies!!!!

Teams Event

Last chance to go into the team’s event, contact your Captain.

Teams of 3, names drawn out of a hat, $10 entry, Prize - winners take all, best three scores from 14/11-24/12. 9-hole players- 6 best 6 scores.

O’May Shield

Terrific quarter finals of the O’May Shield were held last weekend. David Clark and Doc Rossato played previous week and Doc won.

Jon Mercuri and Geoff Veldman went to the 18th locked together and poor Jon, lost his ball in amongst the trees, Geoff won.

Brad Carroll and Karl O’Shaughnessy turned on the 9th with Brad one up and they fought tooth and nail with Brad hanging on to win by one shot.

Craig Piazza and Bimbo Wales also had a terrific match with Craig winning on the 17th. Well done to all players.

Ebe Schlapp Trophy

Next Thursday, in our Centennial year, we will be resurrecting the Men’s Vs Ladies trophy. This event was held in the 70’s and 80’s. The Schlapp family have kindly donated a trophy. A light lunch will be provided at $20. No Men’s Golf next Wednesday.

Peter Stewart

Very sad news this week of the passing of Peter’s eldest daughter, Singrid – she was only 35 years old. Our sincere condolences to Peter and his family, our Club is a family and we greatly share in your loss Peter.

Our sincere condolences to Kevin Kennedy whose vivacious Mum Shelia passed away last week. Our loving thoughts go out to your family Kevin.

Committee Meeting

Highlights

  1. The Club traded at a loss of $9000 last month
  2. The Club to run a RSA course, November 21st, 12.30pm. The Club will pay your fee. Please put your name on a list on the notice board. You will need an IPad, or IPhone or laptop – 4 hours.
  3. John C. presented his drainage report. Club to get a quote from a surveyor for levels.
  4. Ladies to look after the office over summer – great offer, I will be calling on men to support them. Do you have an office chair you don’t use any more, could be more comfortable than the chairs in the office.
  5. The committee accepted recommendations from John C. re Budget and subscription for 2022-23. Please attend annual meeting to vote on these recommendations.
